Have you checked your network duplex setting recently?

Performance Well, I sat down to write an introduction to performance troubleshooting, but I realized that it would be a little premature. Before that can be done, something even more fundamental and important must be discussed. In fact, before any of my employees come to me about a performance problem they are required to check one thing. It is always the first thing I ask, too.

Often the conversation starts with, “The performance on this box is horrible, what do you think it could be?” I always respond with, “Did you check the network speed and duplex?” They answer, “Yes, of course, I did.” Then I follow up with, “On both the computer and the network switch?” Keeping in mind that 99% of all our performance “problems” are network related.
